Show me the Coffee

Every day people around the world drink millions of cups of coffee. It has become a basic necessity of life. If you think about it there's a StarBucks on every corner.

Is coffee really this good or is it so addictive?

So the question remains... does coffee really taste that good or is it so addictive that we can't stop drinking it? I suspect that perhaps it is both. Decadent coffee nearly has a sexcoffeey taste to it. Good coffee tastes rich and full bodied and there simple is nothing else that can compare. Well, perhaps divine chocolate could taste as good.

I think it is both really. I think good coffee almost has a sexy taste to it. It tastes rich and full bodied. Not many things can compare to it. Maybe chocolate, but that is another article all together. You love to drink coffee. You love a good cup of steaming hot Joe on a cold morning. Watching the steam come off the coffee as it snows outside is a very relaxing thought.

Is coffee good or bad for you?

So the question remains... Is coffee good or bad for you? Well, maybe it depends on who you ask. Typically you will find that researchers are paid by a company that is determined to prove their point of view and the one they need to prove in order to best promote their products. So do you see the game...simply put, sometimes the scientists are paid off.

Just like everything else, you must drink coffee in moderation. One or two cups each day is not going to hurt you. But if on the other hand you are drinking a pot every hour, then it shouldn't be too hard to figure out that much coffee will have an effect on you. I have a sister-in-law who drinks several pots of coffee every single day. She drinks it from the moment her eyes open in the morning until she enjoys a last cup just before going to bed. This quantity of coffee can certainly be an addictive behavior.

So if coffee in moderation is ok, then let's take a look at some of the things that are not so good about coffee.

Coffee stains your teeth.

Well to start with we all know what coffee stained teeth look like. They are dingy and frankly a bit distracting. Coffee stained teeth are right up there with cigarette smoke stained teeth. Ok, so there are new products on the market that you can buy to whiten your teeth but if you didn't ever stain your teeth then you wouldn't need those funky whitening products.

Bad breath.

Have you ever had a sniff of the breath of someone who is a heavy coffee drinker? Well to put it mildly it smells rancid. What is the deal! Brush your teeth, chew some mint gum but for goodness sakes get rid of that stale smell that reeks.

It raises stress levels.

Too much coffee can actually increase levels of anxiety. When there's an increase in anxiety, then is can lead to a definite increase in stress. This is not earth-shattering news. It's a well known fact that too much coffee can push you to the edge of calm. Think about it. Have you ever seen how much a person shakes after they drink too much coffee? Not a pretty sight.

It can raise the risk of a heart attack.

There's still not complete agreement on the risks of heart attack related to too much coffee drinking, but if you stop and think about the science behind the statement, it makes sense. If coffee elevates the heart and blood pressure, then too much of it can't be a good thing.

Sterility.

Yes, coffee can affect the little sperm guys swimming in the male semen. Too much coffee can actually lower your sperm count. Not necessarily a good thing.

Stomach problems.

Too much coffee may lead to stomach problems since the caffeine found in coffee is known to irritate the lining of the stomach.

Here are some of the benefits of coffee.

Coffee is thought to prevent prostate cancer. This is too strange, but it is most definitely true. Coffee contains boron, a chemical known to helps curb prostate cancer.

It is a good social drink.

People go to the coffee house to chat all the time. It seems better to be in a coffee house sipping coffee than a bar guzzling alcohol. A cup of coffee could be a good reason to go out and meet new people. A cup once and while can't hurt. Anyway, you never know who you might meet over that yummy cup of Joe.

Coffee also helps to wash down a meal and is a part of many cultures to either start a meal or finish one without having a cup of coffee. No one is certain that coffee actually helps the digestion process, but it sure tastes good after a meal and it certainly is an enjoyable way to end a meal.

As with all things in life, you need to do things in moderation.

Just like everything in life, coffee should be enjoyed in moderation. If you believe that you drinking too much coffee, then just cut back a bit. Yes, coffee does taste delicious, but in the long run too much coffee can cause more harm than good. Just keep in mind that one or two cups per day isn't going to hurt you.
